Doing good on a local level and being globally connected at the same time – that is the vision of the worldwide local help alliance communities within the Lufthansa Group. In Zurich, too, there is a group of SWISS and Lufthansa Group employees whose goal is to promote and support social organizations and projects through volunteer work and thus to make a positive contribution to people and the environment.
The most recent occasion for their commitment was therefore the #WorldCleanupDay in mid-September, which is the world’s largest participatory campaign to combat the global waste crisis. On the occasion of this day, the local help alliance communities throughout the Lufthansa Group joined forces to stand up for a clean planet.
Together with several other SWISS employees, the Zurich Local Volunteering Group set itself the goal on this day of clearing the parks and green spaces around Zurich Airport of litter and thus making a small contribution to a cleaner world. For the actions, they were supported by Zurich Airport with loaned equipment (tongs, gloves and rubbish bags). They collected 17 kg of rubbish, such as used and carelessly discarded hygiene masks and vast quantities of cigarette butts.
Also around the world, for example in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Sofia, Milan, but also in Singapore, India and the USA, the help alliance communities had planned various activities to rid the parks and green spaces in their cities of litter and to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
All help alliance activities and projects contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations whenever possible. The Clean Up campaign supported the SDGs “6 – Clean water and sanitation”, “13 – Climate action” and “15 – Life on land”. Find out more about the help alliance here.
