First of all I would like to wish you all the best for 2021. I hope, this year will be a happy and healthy one for all of you. My name is Mikael Doutor Garcia, I am 25 years old, Portugese and I currently live in Geneva with my three little birds. My parents and my sister live in Neuchâtel. I’ve been working for SWISS since almost three years – well, I’ve never worked one day so far because working for SWISS was and still is a dream.

Since I was 6 years old, I have started to look after airplanes on the sky and dreamt to work on one of them.

My childhood was not easy as I’ve always had many learning problems (dyslexia, dysphasia and many more). Some school teachers told me: “forget about it, you can never be a flight attendant”. They have decided to cancel my German and English classes to focus only on the French language. Their choice had many consequences on my life. However, my goal has always been clear: to become a Cabin Crew Member for SWISS, despite the challenges.

In 2011 I finished school and started an AFP (Attestation Fédéral Professionnel) at the Hospital of Yverdon-les-Bains as “employé en intendance” in maternity. My duties were to clean the rooms, do the service at the cafeteria and the laundry, administration and cooking. After three years and a successful exam, I decided to accomplish a CFC (Certificat Fédéral Capacité) in a house for elderly people in Neuchâtel. It was an awesome experience – to take care of elderly people is such a gift, I really enjoyed every moment with them and I will always keep this time in my heart. As soon as I see elderly passengers on board, I always take special care of them.

Three years later, I decided to leave Switzerland in order to live in Eastbourne (South of England) for 6 months to improve my English skills and in that same year, I applied for the job as flight attendant. Now, I am learning German and I will start Italian too – nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself.

I hope, you will enjoy my stories during this month and I look forward to share my passion with you.
