Over the past six months, Swiss WorldCargo has been preparing for the transport of COVID-19 vaccines. In the summer of 2020, the company established an internal task force to evaluate the potential for transporting COVID-19 vaccines worldwide. Specialists from various departments have analyzed how Swiss WorldCargo’s different aircraft types, network and capabilities can best support global supply chains.
Recently, the company has already successfully conducted initial tests. These have demonstrated Swiss WorldCargo’s ability to meet complex regulatory requirements and customer needs, including compliance with all temperature, cold chain and timing requirements.
As a leading transporter of pharmaceutical and high-maintenance goods, Swiss WorldCargo has many years of experience in the delivery of pharmaceutical products, including vaccines. Its long-standing expertise is based on its well-trained staff, excellent infrastructure at the Zurich hub and strong ground handling partners. Swiss WorldCargo is CEIV Pharma certified as an organization. Swiss WorldCargo’s hub in Zurich, which is operated by Cargologic, is IATA CEIV Pharma certified and Swissmedic GDP compliant, thus meeting the regulations of the Swiss authorities.
“The coming months represent a major challenge for the entire air cargo and logistics industry,” says Christian Wyss, Head of Quality & Services at Swiss WorldCargo and Head of the Swiss WorldCargo Vaccine Transport Task Force. “However, based on our many years of experience in handling complex pharmaceutical shipments, Swiss WorldCargo is well positioned to support the transport of COVID-19 vaccines into, out of and through Switzerland to a variety of global destinations.”
Swiss WorldCargo continues to closely monitor the regulatory approval process for all COVID-19 vaccines and is prepared to execute shipments in the coming weeks and months.
