Amy Macdonald enchanted the world of pop music for the first time in 2008 with her stunning debut album “This Is The Life”. The acutely talented Scottish singer/songwriter produced and exclusive music channel for SWISS where she compileed a selection of her own compositions as well as her favourite songs. Amy told SWISS a bit more about herself, her music and her habits when travelling.
What is your biggest inspiration when creating a new track?
It can be anything. I am inspired by simple everyday life. I can be inspired to write songs after a concert, or after seeing my friends or something as simple as hearing a cool song on the radio.
How have the songs you picked for the SWISS playlist been chosen?
There are artists there that inspire me and songs that I just love. The digital age makes it easier to pick playlists as I just used my most played songs from my computer.
If you could choose one song, which would be your favourite of all time?
It’s impossible to choose a favourite song of all time as there are so many that I love. I would say that I wish I had written “God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys and I’m also so proud of what my song “This Is The Life” has achieved for me throughout Europe.
Have you got any favourite locations where you love to perform?
Last year I played in Locarno which was beautiful. It was one of the best gigs I have ever played and the audience was amazing but nothing will ever really top playing at the Glasgow Barrowlands, my home town and one of the best venues in the world.
What are your most favourite destinations?
I love going a bit further afield, particularly for holidays. I absolutely love cool cities like New York and Chicago and right now I’m in love with Dubai. It’s an amazing city and it has a beautiful beach, what more could you want?
What do you always bring with you while travelling?
I’m very into technology. It makes life much easier when I’m away. I will always have my iPad, to keep me occupied on long flights to read, write, email and watch all my favourite movies.
What is typically Scottish about you?
I’m extremely patriotic and I’m very proud of my country and where I come from but I think the most Scottish thing about me is my name. The Clan Macdonald is one of the biggest in Scotland and is a very common Scottish surname.
What are your plans in the near future?
Well, I’ve released my album “A Curious Thing” this year so it’ll be a few years before I release another one. I plan on doing a big European tour in the fall and I’m very excited to get out and tour with my new songs. I can’t wait for my show on November 5th at Hallenstadion (Zurich, Switzerland)!
