Where does the inspiration for your songs come from?
Generally the initial ideas come from our lead singer Gary and perhaps what he’s going through at that particular point in time.
The band is currently on its 2012 tour. Is there a particular place where you are looking forward to performing?
There are a few new places on this tour. Next week we’re off to Dubai and then Oman. That’s new territory for us, as we have never been to the Middle East. It’s always good to visit new places – so we’re excited about that.
What would you say are some of your favourite destinations?
We always have a good time in places like the US, and Mexico is also great. Just last year, we went to Buenos Aires, which I loved. However, the new places are the ones that you also tend to enjoy, because you have the feeling that you want to go out and visit the whole city.
Is there anything in particular that you like about Switzerland?
The chocolate (laughs). No, it’s a great place. We’ve been here a few times now, and not only are the crowds really receptive, but the people have shown a lot of warmth and hospitality as well. What I’ve also found is that the scenery is breathtaking. I live in Scotland and we think we’ve got beautiful scenery, but the Alps are amazing. Overall it’s a wonderful place to visit.
Snow Patrol, in cooperation with Universal Music, has created an audio channel for SWISS. What can passengers look forward to when they listen to your music during the flights?
Especially with this new record, Fallen Empires, everything seems to be woven together quite beautifully, and Gary’s wordsmithship is phenomenal. It’s a little bit more on the electronic side but also comprises a lot of beautiful moments, so there are definitely lots of different things to listen to. I hope that all the passengers enjoy it.
Tom, I would like to thank you very much for the interview, and I wish you all the best and good luck for the future.
